<image:title>Problems overview - Heel pain - Heel pain</image:title>
<image:caption>Heel pain is the most common musculoskeletal condition we treat at our clinic. Affecting up to 10% of Australians, Heel pain is a general term to describe a number of common conditions that our podiatrists treat including: Plantar fasciitis/fasciosis, nerve impingement, fat pad contusion, Abductor Hallucis tendinopathy, bony injury (including calcaneal stress fractures) and Achilles tendinopathy. Pain is generally present in the heel or arch area and can be exacerbated by long periods of weightbearing at home or work. Symptoms may include pain and stiffness when you first get out of bed in the morning, or after periods of rest. Your pain levels may increase with increased periods of weightbearing (standing, walking, running). How can we help? We start by conducting a comprehensive initial assessment, where we gather a thorough medical and injury history and then complete a physical exam and biomechanical assessment to help us to understand the causative factors and determine a diagnosis. We will also watch you walking and assess your footwear. At your initial consultation, we will discuss the contributing factors to your injury and formulate a recovery plan. This treatment plan may include manual therapy (Foot mobilisation, dry needling etc), taping, orthotics, footwear advice and an exercise program to stretch and strengthen. We also offer shockwave therapy which is very effective at reducing pain and stimulating healing.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Around 1.8 million Australians are currently living with Diabetes. High blood sugar levels can affect many systems within our body, and can lead to foot problems due to changes to the nerves and reduced circulation. Regular foot health checks are recommended and an important part of managing your diabetes. During these assessments, we will examine your bloody supply and nerve function, assess the condition of your skin and nails, watch you walk and check your footwear. We will collaborate with your GP and extended healthcare team to ensure your feet remain healthy in the presence of Diabetes.</image:caption>

<image:title>Problems overview - Achilles Tendinopathy - Achilles Tendinopathy</image:title>
<image:caption>The Achilles Tendon connects your calf muscles to your heel bone and is the largest tendon in your body. It does an amazing job, helping you to walk, run and jump. Pain in the back of the heel area can be due various conditions that our Podiatrists treat such as Achilles tendinopathy (midportion and insertional), sural nerve impingement, Plantaris tendinopathy and Bursitis. To ensure an appropriate recovery plan is formulated, accurate diagnosis is very important. How can we help? We start by conducting a comprehensive initial assessment, where we gather a thorough medical and injury history and then complete a physical exam and biomechanical assessment to help us to understand the causative factors and determine a diagnosis. We will also watch you walk, perform functional movements, and assess your footwear. At your initial consultation, we will discuss the contributing factors to your injury and formulate a recovery plan. Tendon injuries occur when loads going through the tendon are greater than what the tendon can tolerate. An essential part of any tendon recovery plan, is to modify loads whilst improving tolerance/strength. Your treatment plan may include manual therapy (Foot mobilisation, dry needling etc) , taping, orthotics, heel lifts, footwear advice and a strengthening program (to increase load tolerance). We also offer shockwave therapy which is very effective at reducing pain and stimulating healing.</image:caption>

<image:title>Problems overview - Bunions - Bunions</image:title>
<image:caption>Bunions (Hallux Abductovalgus) are a common foot condition treated by our team of Podiatrists. As the big toe joint changes position, it can become painful and make shoe fitting more difficult. Bunions are often heredity, but can be exacerbated by inefficient biomechanics and wearing inappropriate footwear. Conservative management options including splints, orthotics and changes to footwear are usually advised before seeking a surgical opinion. How can we help? We start by conducting a comprehensive initial assessment, where we gather a thorough medical history and then complete a physical exam and biomechanical assessment to help us to understand the causative factors. We will also watch you walk, perform functional movements, and assess your footwear. At your initial consultation, we will discuss contributing factors and formulate a plan. <image:title>Problems overview - Forefoot pain - Forefoot pain</image:title>
<image:caption>Forefoot pain commonly refers to pain around the ‘ball of the foot’. You may be experiencing sharp pain, dull aching pain, swelling, burning or numbness. There are many structures in this area of the foot which can become injured, contributing to conditions such as; Stress fractures, Morton’s Neuroma, Plantar plate tears, Bursitis, Arthritis, Tendonitis, Sesamoiditis & Capsulitis. At your initial consultation, our podiatrists will discuss the contributing factors to your injury and formulate a recovery plan that reduces loads in your injured tissues and allows them to heal. This may include padding and strapping, orthotics, footwear advice, manual therapy and an exercise program.</image:caption>

<image:title>Problems overview - Ingrown toenails - Ingrown toenails</image:title>
<image:caption>Ingrown toenails occur when a piece of toenail grows into the surrounding skin, and can lead to pain and infection. They may occur due to the incorrect cutting of nails, tight footwear, direct trauma, picking of nails and nail shape (involuted nails which curl in the corners). Ingrown toenail can often be managed very easily and conservatively by our Podiatrists. If the nail becomes consistently infected or inflamed and is causing a lot of pain, we will recommend partial nail avulsion surgery.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Foot orthoses, commonly known as arch supports, can play an important role in the recovery plan of many people we see with foot, ankle and lower leg pain. Orthotic devices are prescribed by Podiatrists to alter loads and forces that contribute to injury, and to improve the way you function and move. Load management is an important component of any recovery plan, and orthotics can play a beneficial role. We use innovative technology to assess your feet and the way you move, to provide you with orthotics devices that are comfortable, functional and fit well into your footwear. They can be made out of a variety of materials to ensure fit, comfort and suitability for your activities. Foot Orthotics are often only one component of your recovery plan and are often used in conjunction with other treatment modalities including stretching, strengthening, functional exercises, foot mobilisation therapy, shockwave therapy and changes to footwear. Health Insurance Rebates (Extras Covers with Podiatry) are available for Orthotic Devices when fitted by our Podiatrists.</image:caption>

<image:title>Solutions overview - Blister management - Blister management</image:title>
<image:caption>Blisters can really slow you down and be incredibly debilitating. Our Podiatrists can help by creating a blister management plan, including looking at ways to prevent blisters from occurring. Our top tips for blister prevention Footwear – ensure your shoes are properly fitted and are appropriate for your activity Shoe-lacing techniques – there are lacing techniques which can help reduce shearing forces, offload pressure and reduce friction. Socks – Make sure your socks fit well and that you change them regularly. Technical socks (such as Thorlos, Experia, Lightfeet, Steigen) are best at keeping your skin dry and reducing friction. Blister patches – We love Engo blister products and stock them at our clinic. These patches are added to your footwear in ‘hot spot’ areas to reduce shearing forces. Silicone toe sleeves can also be helpful. Taping, padding etc. - Taping of ‘hot spots’ with breathable/water resistant tape such as Mefix/Fixomul can be helpful to reinforce the skin and reduce shearing forces. Padding can also be applied to the feet to effectively offload ‘hotspots’.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Our Podiatrists regularly perform Nail surgery (Partial/Total Nail Avulsion surgery with Phenolisation), to treat ingrown toenails or to remove painful nails. It can be used to effectively treat ingrown nails, particularly if they are recurrent, infected, and conservative treatments options have been unsuccessful. This procedure is a minor surgery performed in our clinical rooms under Local Anaesthetic and can offer a permanent solution to your ingrown or painful nail. It involves removing the offending nail edge and applying phenol to the nail bed to prevent it from re-growing. In most cases there is minimal post-operative discomfort and a quick recovery time.</image:caption>

<image:title>Solutions overview - Foot mobilisation & manipulation - Foot mobilisation and manipulation (FMT)</image:title>
<image:caption>Our feet are engineering masterpieces made up of 26 bones, 30 joints and more than 100 muscles, tendons and ligaments (in each foot!). We need our feet to move freely and adapt to various terrains to provide support and balance. If any of the little joints in our feet are not moving effectively, it can affect our whole body and stop us from doing the things we love to do. Mobilisation therapy is a manual therapy (hands on treatment) used widely by health professionals including Podiatrists, Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Chiropractors. Our team have completed post graduate study in FMT and regularly use the therapy as part of a comprehensive recovery plan in conjunction with other treatment modalities. When would we use it? FMT can be very effective for a number of foot and ankle conditions including Heel Pain (plantar fasciosis/fasciitis), Arthritis, Bunions, Posterior Tibialis Tendinopathy, Achilles Tendinopathy, Ankle instability, Sinus Tarsi syndrome, Sesamoiditis, Neuroma and Bursitis.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Shockwave therapy is an effective, evidence-based treatment our Podiatrists use in the management of Heel pain, Plantar fasciitis/fasciosis, Achilles tendinopathy and Forefoot pain. This non-invasive treatment works by increasing blood flow, stimulating healing and reducing pain. How does it work? Increases blood flow to the injured area which promotes healing Inhibits Substance P (a pain mediator in our bodies) which creates an analgesic effect and reduces pain. Provides an anti inflammatory effect by inhibiting the Cox II enzyme How long is the treatment? The treatment usually takes around 5 mins per site. How many sessions will I need? The average number of sessions is 3-4 over a 4-6 week period.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A painless nail correction system for ingrown and involuted (curved) nails. Instead of relying on invasive methods, Onyx uses a nail correction composite that is applied gently to the nail. This composite enables the nail plate to grow in the right direction, which guides the nail back into its natural shape. Besides relieving the symptoms, this also avoids further complications. Onyfix was launched as a medical device in 2017. The Onyfix nail correction system is an innovative product for painless treatment of ingrown and involuted nails. The Onyfix nail brace can treat almost all shapes and stages of ingrown, involuted and deformed nails. Onyfix is not just user-friendly, it also enables pain-free and non-invasive (tissue remains intact) treatment for the correction of toenails.</image:caption>
